scarcely be carried out without the berthing and warehousing facilities which the Company provides

You will note that each company maintains that no compensation could recompense it for the loss of its Marine rights and it is equally true that Marine rights similar in value could not be provided.

While it is difficult to believe that

Local Government would undertake the construction of any works under the Bill which would frustrate the activities of the Companies referred to, apart from any question of the amount of compen sation involved which it would be difficult if not impossible to equitably assess, it is equally difficult to understand the objection to

provisions of a protective nature being inserted in the Bill.

I would especially draw your attention to the reply received by the Electric Company in answer to their request for exemption from the provisions of the Bill in view of the fact that it was expressly stated in their letter that no compensation could afford them any recompense

The only logical conclusion to be drawn from this reply is that the Government could not disclaim the intention to interfere with the Companies Marine rights.
